DOORS Door 50 walkthrough: beat The Library and crack the padlock code
How to clear Door 50 in DOORS: find the paper and eight books, read the symbol code, dodge the Figure and open the Door 51 padlock, current for 2026.

Door 50 is where DOORS stops letting you outrun the problem. The Library is a fixed room in The Hotel where the Figure, a blind entity that hunts by sound, patrols the shelves while you collect eight books, read one paper and enter a five-digit code on the padlock of Door 51. This guide covers the room as it plays in September 2026; recent updates did not change the code puzzle, but they changed where you can hide and what the Figure hears.
Before you open Door 50
Door 49 is always the Library Entrance, a small safe room with a reception desk and the Library's double doors on the right.
- Take the Alarm Clock from the reception desk. It is guaranteed to be there and it is the most useful item in the room ahead.
- Keep Vitamins. They are the only thing that lets you outrun the Figure once it is chasing you.
- Put the flashlight away. Toggling it, or letting it flicker, is a noise the Figure reacts to. The Library has enough lamps to see by.

Step 1: survive the opening cutscene
Opening Door 50 plays a short scripted sequence. The Figure roars, steps out from behind a bookshelf and lurches toward the door. Guiding Light knocks a lamp to the floor on the left of the entrance, the Figure runs to the crash and stomps on it, and control returns to you. From then on it patrols, usually from the upstairs overlook down the central walkway to the entrance, across the shelves and back.

Crouch immediately and stay crouched for the whole room. The Figure checks whether you are crouching, not how fast you move, so a crouched player on Vitamins is still silent. Walking upright, opening drawers, using the flashlight or climbing on furniture are all noise. Reading a book does not.
Step 2: get the paper first
The Solution Paper sits on the large librarian's desk on the left side of the ground floor, marked by Guiding Light's blue glow. Grab it before the books; it tells you which five of the eight matter.

The paper shows five shapes drawn from a pool of eight (circle, X, diamond, hexagon, pentagon, square, star and triangle), each with a Roman numeral from I to V above it, over a sketch of the padlock with its dials numbered I to V. That is the whole cipher: the shape under I gives the first digit, the shape under II the second, and so on. Ignore the small "pentagon = 4" doodle in the corner; it is a worked example, not part of your code.
Step 3: collect the eight books
Eight books spawn on the bottom three shelves of the bookcases on both floors. They are cyan with Guiding Light's crescent moon on the spine, lean out of the shelf, and give off a soft shimmer like a key. Turning the game music down makes the shimmer easier to follow.

Interact with a book and your character opens it: the left page shows a shape, the right page a single digit from 0 to 9. The book then vanishes and the pairing is added to the list in the bottom left of the screen for every player. Two facts make the hunt easier:
- Only five books belong to the code. Three are decoys, and the developers have said the room is built to hand you the useless ones first.
- The eighth and final book always holds a digit you need, so if you are one symbol short after seven books, keep looking rather than guessing.
Each book adds 0.8 walkspeed to the Figure's base speed of 10. At eight books it moves at 16.4, faster than your uncrouched 15, so the room gets less forgiving as you go. Clear the ground floor first, then take whichever staircase is not barricaded (random each run) and finish upstairs, so you end the hunt next to the exit.
Step 4: hide when the footsteps get close
Your screen shakes with each Figure footstep, and the shaking sharpens as it approaches. When it is coming down your aisle, stop and use one of these:
- Wooden closets. Safe if the Figure walks past. If it stops to inspect your closet, the Heartbeat Control Minigame starts: blue half-hearts fly in from the left and red halves from the right, and you press the matching side (A and D or the arrow keys on PC, tap on mobile) as each one lands. Miss one beat and the Figure pulls you out. It only ends when the Figure moves away, and Hide will eventually throw you out regardless.
- Behind the couch at the end of the central walkway, and under the blocked stairs on the upper level near the exit. Both sit just outside the normal patrol path, but neither is safe if the Figure has been lured there by a noise.
- The Alarm Clock. Click to wind it and place it at your feet. It rings after ten seconds, the Figure sprints to it, searches around it and stomps it flat. Never stand between the Figure and the clock.

The corners beside the ground-floor staircases are no longer safe; The Mines Update let the Figure path into all of them.
Step 5: enter the code on the padlock
Door 51 is on the raised level at the far end of the room, up the unblocked staircase, with the combination padlock hanging on its handles. Interact with it and the dial screen opens with your collected symbol-and-number pairs listed on the left, so nothing needs memorising.

Work through the paper from I to V. If the paper shows X under I and your book said X = 3, the first dial is 3. Set the dials and confirm. In multiplayer, type the code into chat so a teammate can enter it if you die. The Figure's patrol passes directly in front of this door, so dial between passes, and if you hear it on the stairs, step back and wait.
If you are missing exactly one digit, guess: cycle that dial from 0 to 9 and the door opens within ten attempts. Two missing digits means up to a hundred combinations, which is slower than finding the book. No key, lockpick or Skeleton Key works on this lock.

After the padlock: Door 51 and the rest of The Hotel
Once the padlock drops, open Door 51 and run straight out. Guiding Light seals the door a few seconds later; anyone still inside is teleported to Door 51 by Void with no damage, and the Figure no longer performs the full-speed hunt it did before The Mines Update. Do not stand in the doorway as it closes or you can trap yourself in the room. Escaping earns the "Sshh!" achievement.
The hints and the paper disappear, and the Figure stays behind. From here Rush, Ambush and Halt spawn more often, ruined rooms can start at Door 53, the hidden entrance to The Rooms is at Door 60, and the Figure returns in the Electrical Room at Door 100 before the elevator into The Mines. Eyes cannot spawn inside the Library but can appear in the very next room, so keep your camera down as you leave.
If the Figure catches you
- It heard you walk. A July 2026 patch fixed a bug where the Figure could not hear running players, so as of September 2026 it always can. Crouch before you move.
- Timothy. Any drawer or chest in the Library has a small chance to hold the spider. It only does 5 damage, but opening the drawer is itself a noise, so leave containers alone.
- Chased in the open. Eat Vitamins and cut sharp corners around the shelves; the Figure loses you when it cannot hear you. A Crucifix only stuns it for a few seconds and can wedge it across a corridor; crouch under its arm if it blocks you.
Quick checklist
- Take the Alarm Clock from the Door 49 desk; keep Vitamins; put the flashlight away.
- Open Door 50, wait out the cutscene, crouch.
- Collect the Solution Paper from the librarian's desk on the left.
- Find all eight cyan moon-marked books on the bottom three shelves; the last one is always needed.
- Hide behind the couch, under the blocked upper stairs or in a closet; use the clock to pull the Figure away.
- Match the paper's I to V shapes to your book numbers and dial the five digits into the Door 51 padlock.
- Run out and keep going; the door seals behind you.
