State of Play September 2026 recap: Final Fantasy VII Revelation dated for April 8, 2027

Sony ran two back-to-back shows on September 3, 2026: a main State of Play and a Japan-focused follow-up hosted by Yuki Kaji. Between them they covered more than 30 games. The headline is a hard date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, but the schedule underneath matters just as much: nine dated releases between now and February, a shadow drop, four PlayStation Plus additions and a Gran Turismo 7 update split across two months. Here is what was confirmed, what it costs where a price exists, and what you should act on this week.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation lands April 8, 2027, on every platform at once

Square Enix closed the main show with an extended gameplay segment and the date: April 8, 2027. The PlayStation Blog post covers PS5, and Square Enix confirmed the same day for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. That is the first time an entry in the remake trilogy ships everywhere simultaneously.

Three editions are up for pre-order. Standard is $69.99 on the PlayStation Store listing. Premium adds a Story Expansion Pass, 24-hour early access and in-game items. Premium Plus stacks a digital art book, the soundtrack and extra materia and armor on top. Every edition gets the Mecha-Chocobo and Moogle summon materia as a pre-order bonus.

The gameplay showed the systems that change how the third game plays. You get the Highwind early and use it for open-world traversal, including skydiving to a destination. A chocobo companion named Piko serves as a mount and fights alongside the party. The new FITS system gives each character four outfits, Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner, that swap abilities as well as appearance. Cid and Vincent are playable. You can switch party members freely while exploring, use a grappling gun to scale rooftops, and the demo included Wutai's capital with a side activity that involves photographing the city's cats. Queen's Blood returns with a Red XIII storyline.

The promise has been made. Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches both physically and digitally on April 8, 2027.

Every release date confirmed at the show

Sony's official recap lists these, and they line up with the trailers. In order:

• Keeper (Double Fine): out now on PS5, shadow-dropped during the show.
• Marvel's Wolverine (Insomniac): September 15, 2026. The final trailer put Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Mystique, Bolivar Trask and Sentinels on screen.
• Rematch (Sloclap) Blue Lock collaboration: September 24.
• Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition: October 1, bundling the base game with the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion and the new Most Wanted mode.
• Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown expansion: October 15, adding underwater traversal and base building.
• Final Fantasy Resonance: October 22, demo available now.
• Where the Seeds Fall (Cygames): November 5.
• Grand Theft Auto VI: November 19, with two limited-edition DualSense controllers launching the same day.
• Until Dawn 2 (Firesprite and AdHoc Studio): January 28, 2027.
• Metro 2039 (4A Games): February 4, 2027.

If you are planning a purchase budget, note that Wolverine, the Yotei Complete Edition, Resonance and GTA VI all land inside a nine-week window. The Yotei Complete Edition is the one to watch if you skipped the base game last year: it is the one package that bundles the expansion with the base story.

PlayStation Plus: Mycopunk and three Classics

Four games were called out for PlayStation Plus. Mycopunk, a co-op looter shooter for one to four players from the team currently in PC early access, arrives in the Game Catalog later this year for Extra and Premium members. You control a squad of scrap-built robots sent to clean a fungus-infected planet, loot mechanical bosses and build weapons from the parts.

The Classics Catalog gets three additions, all Premium-tier: Mega Man X: Command Mission in September, then Dino Crisis 2 and the original Ratchet and Clank before the end of 2026. Command Mission is the 2004 turn-based RPG spin-off from the PS2 and GameCube era, and it is the standout of the three. Dino Crisis 2 is the PS1 action sequel; Ratchet and Clank is the 2002 PS2 original, not the 2016 remake.

2027 reveals, updates and the Japan show

Several games got windows rather than dates. Maneater 2 (Tripwire) is 2027. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Capcom's expansion, is 2027. Konami showed two new titles, Rev. Noir and Rhapsody in Scarlet, both 2027. Uncanyon (Graceful Decay) is 2027. Saros gets a free Zenith update later in 2026.

Gran Turismo 7's Spec IV update comes in two parts, October and December, and adds two circuits, SUGO in Japan and a recreated, expanded Autumn Ring, plus 12 cars. Outside the games: a 1,911-piece LEGO PlayStation set modeled on the original console goes on sale in October, and the Resident Evil film reaches cinemas September 18.

State of Play Japan added Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 (2027), Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World (December 3, 2026), Gundam Rogue Orbit (March 5, 2027), Fate/Extra Record (January 28, 2027, PS5 and PS4), a winter DLC for Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online, and Daba: Land of Water Scar from the China Hero Project for spring 2027.
